How to Pay a Toll

On Morocco's ADM-operated motorways, travel is tolled. Tolls are paid either manually at a toll gate, or automatically with the Jawaz electronic toll tag. This guide explains, step by step, the different ways to pay and what to expect as you approach a toll plaza.
The two main payment methods
There are two main ways to pay a toll in Morocco:
- Manual payment: you stop at a traditional toll lane and pay at the booth or a machine, usually in cash.
- Jawaz electronic tolling: a tag stuck to your windscreen is detected automatically in a dedicated lane, and the amount is debited from a pre-funded account.
The exact rate depends on the axis you use, the distance and your vehicle category. This site does not publish a rate table: search for ADM's official simulator (adm.co.ma) in your browser.
Step by step as you approach a gate
Whether you pay manually or with Jawaz, the logic is the same:
- Slow down as soon as you see the signs announcing the toll gate.
- Choose the right lane: Jawaz lanes are marked with a specific logo and often a distinct colour; other lanes accept manual payment.
- In a closed toll system, take a ticket at entry then pay for the distance travelled at the exit. In an open toll system, pay a flat amount at the crossing point.
- Pay (cash at the booth, or automatic debit in a Jawaz lane) and wait for the barrier to lift before moving off.

Closed toll and open toll
Morocco's network uses two systems:
- Closed toll: you take a ticket at the motorway entry and pay at the exit based on the distance actually travelled. This is the most common system on long axes.
- Open toll: you pay a fixed amount at a crossing point, with no ticket, whatever the exact trip.
Which method to choose?
For an occasional trip, manual cash payment stays simple. If you use the motorway regularly, the Jawaz tag saves time at gates by avoiding the stop at the booth. The choice therefore depends mostly on how often you travel.
Always keep coins or small notes for manual payment: not every lane necessarily accepts cards.
